Patrick Hunt’s original fabulist tales, Greek Musings, derive from his experiences in Greece spread out over a lifetime. Both memoir and myth combine here in sometimes amusing, sometimes numinous encounters with Greek culture past and present. This small collection should add to Hunt’s stature as a Philhellene, along with his five books of poetry and philosophical aphorisms where the ancient world has inspired much of his thinking, and his professional life as historian and archaeologist. He is forever grateful to the American School of Classical Studies in Athens where he was a graduate student and has been fulfilled teaching different aspects of Classics over decades even though he feels more inclined to being a storyteller rather than scholar. Nevertheless, it is easy to see here the many deep contributions of the Greek world that have greatly influenced Hunt’s life.
